Approval of ₹55.48 Billion for Procurement of Pulses and Oilseeds in States

New Delhi. The Union Agriculture Minister has approved funds amounting to ₹55.48 billion for the procurement of pulses and oilseeds from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) across three states—Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka—during the 2026-27 Kharif marketing season. Approval has been granted for the procurement of 7.06 lakh tonnes of pulses and oilseeds in these states, with Uttar Pradesh accounting for the largest share.

According to available information, proposals have been accepted for the procurement of pulses and oilseeds worth ₹39.93 billion in Uttar Pradesh, ₹11.07 billion in Karnataka, and ₹4.48 billion in Telangana.

In Uttar Pradesh, 4.66 lakh tonnes of Arhar (Tur) and 6,250 tonnes of Moong will be procured, while in Karnataka, approval has been given for the procurement of 1,15,500 tonnes of soybean, 38,250 tonnes of Moong, and 13,413 tonnes of sunflower. Similarly, it has been decided to procure 62,000 tonnes of soybean and 10,766 tonnes of Moong in Telangana. This government procurement, conducted under the Price Support Scheme (PSS), will provide relief to farmers.

A statement from the Ministry of Agriculture noted that the objective of this decision is to ensure pulse and oilseed growers receive the benefit of the Minimum Support Price when wholesale market rates fall below that level. The government is making sustained, serious efforts to encourage farmers to cultivate pulse and oilseed crops. Significant hikes have already been made to the MSP for Kharif-season pulses and oilseeds, and the MSP for Rabi-season pulses and oilseeds has now also been announced.
