Arecanut Imports Decline in India: Minister
★ The government has stated that India imported 21,160 tonnes of arecanut from LDECs such as Bangladesh, Myanmar and Bhutan in 2024-25, which is about 1.5% of the country’s total production of 14 lakh tonnes.
★ Imports from LDECs have fallen from 32,238 tonnes in 2022-23 to 21,160 tonnes in 2024-25, mainly due to the increase in Minimum Import Price (MIP) from ₹251 per kg to ₹351 per kg in February 2023.
