Buenos Aires. The weather remained dry and hot in most parts of the Latin American country Argentina last week and there are indications of less rain and high temperature during the current week as well. Rain is expected in the western and northwestern parts of the country within the next 6 to 10 days.

The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange has estimated the production of 496 lakh tonnes of soybean in Argentina and the Rosaria Exchange has estimated the production of 445 lakh tonnes during the current season of 2024-25, while the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has expressed the possibility of production of 490 lakh tonnes there in its March report.

But looking at the current condition of the crop, analysts in the industry-business sector believe that the actual production of soybean in Argentina will not exceed 480 lakh tonnes.

There has been some improvement in the condition of the crop during the last four weeks, so the production estimate remains stable.

In Argentina, sowing and harvesting of soybean starts late as compared to Brazil. The crop is going through different stages of progress there. 61 percent of the crop is flowering and graining while 12 percent of the crop has matured.

Preparations for harvesting of the early sown crop have started and its pace is expected to increase from next month. In the northern producing areas of the country,

the progress of soybean crop is being adversely affected due to extreme heat and lack of moisture, while in some places in the central region, the fields have been flooded due to heavy rains.

The rains in February and early March had provided relief to the soybean crop and facilitated flowering and grain setting.

26 percent of the soybean crop in Argentina has been assessed to be in very weak or bad condition while the condition of 42 percent of the crop is normal and the condition of the remaining 32 percent is said to be encouraging.

It is noteworthy that Argentina is the third largest producer and exporter of soybean in the world while it ranks first in the production of soy oil and soymeal.
