Melbourne. Australian lentil exports have seen a remarkable increase during the current marketing season compared to the previous one. This growth is driven by a significant rise in domestic production and sustained strong demand from key importing nations, alongside competitive pricing.

According to a report by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, although lentil exports dipped by 3 percent—falling from 86,136 tonnes in March to 83,618 tonnes in April 2026—the total export volume for the first seven months of the current marketing season (October 2025 to April 2026) surged to 1,124,192 tonnes. This figure is substantially higher than the 758,432 tonnes shipped during the corresponding period of the 2024-25 season.

In April 2026, the largest volumes of Australian lentils were exported to Sri Lanka (34,589 tonnes) and the United Arab Emirates (28,575 tonnes), while 8,565 tonnes were shipped to Nepal.

Another government agency, ABARES, has projected that Australia's total lentil production will rise to an all-time high of 2.1 million tonnes during the 2026-27 season. Meanwhile, lentil imports into India are declining.
