Chinese Importers Ramp Up Indonesian Palm Oil Purchases

Jakarta: Chinese importers have shown significant activity in purchasing Indonesian palm oil over the past few days. Reports indicate that in the last two weeks, Chinese importers have booked between 18 and 30 cargoes of palm olein from Indonesia for June and July shipments. This trend of heavy purchasing is expected to continue in the coming days.

It is understood that a rise in soybean futures prices on China's Dalian Commodity Exchange has made the price of Indonesian palm olein attractive, thereby encouraging Chinese importers to make large-scale purchases. Chinese buyers are now realizing substantial margins on palm olein imports.

Meanwhile, ahead of the full implementation of Indonesia's new palm oil export framework, producers and exporters are making vigorous efforts to sell off maximum stocks; to facilitate this, prices have been lowered to competitive levels. While China typically imports 17–18 cargoes of palm oil from Indonesia per month, the volume is now seeing a nearly twofold increase.
