Australia exports 21.18 lakh tonnes of wheat in March

Sydney. A report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reveals that Australia exported slightly more than 21.18 lakh tonnes of wheat in March 2025.
This marks a 0.7 percent increase from February's total shipment of 21.09 lakh tonnes but a 17 percent decline compared to the robust 25.67 lakh tonnes exported in March 2024. The figures include both regular wheat and durum wheat exports.
Wheat from Australia is shipped in both bulk and container formats. During the first half of the current marketing season, from October 2024 to March 2025, a total of 10.05 lakh tonnes of wheat was exported in containers.
This included 4.50 lakh tonnes in October–December 2024, 1.53 lakh tonnes in January 2025, 1.95 lakh tonnes in February, and 2.07 lakh tonnes in March.
Key container export destinations over the six-month period included Indonesia (1.41 lakh tonnes), Malaysia (1.35 lakh tonnes), Taiwan (1.19 lakh tonnes), Thailand (2 lakh tonnes), and Vietnam (1.39 lakh tonnes). Exports to other countries remained below one lakh tonnes each.
In terms of bulk shipments, Australia exported 88.49 lakh tonnes of wheat during the October 2024 to March 2025 period.
This comprised 33.92 lakh tonnes in October–December 2024, 16.31 lakh tonnes in January, 19.15 lakh tonnes in February, and 19.11 lakh tonnes in March.
Notable bulk export destinations included Indonesia (15.89 lakh tonnes), the Philippines (15.68 lakh tonnes), Thailand (7.26 lakh tonnes), Vietnam (6.20 lakh tonnes), Yemen (6.87 lakh tonnes),
South Korea (5.79 lakh tonnes), Japan (5.37 lakh tonnes), China (4.68 lakh tonnes), Kuwait (2.66 lakh tonnes), Malaysia (2.80 lakh tonnes), New Zealand (2.35 lakh tonnes),
Myanmar (1.62 lakh tonnes), the UAE (1.69 lakh tonnes), and Papua New Guinea (1.34 lakh tonnes). Wheat was also exported to several other countries, including India, though volumes remained under one lakh tonnes for each.
India imported a total of 30,869 tonnes of wheat from Australia during this period—13,003 tonnes in the October–December 2024 quarter and 17,866 tonnes in January 2025. No imports were recorded in February and March.
