Canadian Lentil Prices Steady for Second Week on Good Supply

Vancouver. Canada is forecast to have a bumper lentil harvest this year. Harvesting is complete, and all produce has reached farmers. However, export demand is weak, leading to a softening or stagnant price.
Large green lentils are reported to be priced at 27-28 cents per pound, red lentils at 23.50 cents per pound, and small lentils at around 21-22 cents per pound.
Beluga lentils are trading at a price level of 40 cents per pound. However, none of these lentil categories are seeing strong demand.
In fact, Asian importers, including India, are focused on Australia, where lentil production is expected to jump sharply this year to a new record high of 1.7 million tonnes.
Harvesting of the new crop has begun, and pressure on offer prices under contracts for shipments in the coming months is increasing. This has increased the challenge for Canadian producers and exporters. Russia has also seen a good lentil production.
Canadian lentil prices could have fallen further, but given the weak market price, producers have slowed the pace of selling their stocks.
Based on crop yields and projected production figures, it appears that lentil supply and availability will not be a problem in Canada during the current marketing season (August-July) of 2025-26. Consequently, foreign importers are not rushing to purchase.
There is some interest from buyers in coarse green lentils, while trading in other varieties is sluggish. Producers attempted to sell lentils heavily during the initial stages of harvest, leading to a significant decline in prices.
