Corn International Market
So far in October, December corn futures have averaged a closing price of $4.18, which is used to determine the harvest price for crop insurance. This is below February’s $4.70 but slightly above last year’s harvest price of $4.16.
Harvest is expected to continue through the coming week across much of the Western Corn Belt, while the Eastern Corn Belt could receive 1 to 3 inches of rainfall. The rain may slow down later harvest progress but could help improve low water levels along the Mississippi River. Yield results so far have been below expectations for some farmers.
According to the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, Argentina’s corn crop is 29.9% planted, ahead of both last year’s pace and the average progress.
