According to the Commitment of Traders (COT) data released Friday afternoon, managed money sharply reduced its net short position by 71,479 contracts as of October 28. Their net short position has now fallen to 89,506 contracts.
Commercial traders cut their long positions and increased their shorts, pushing their net short position up by 77,722 contracts to 128,585 contracts.
USDA will release another backlog report on export sales data on Monday. Traders expect 1–2 MMT of corn bookings for the week ending November 6.
The monthly WASDE report will be released Tuesday. Analysts surveyed by Bloomberg estimate U.S. corn ending stocks at 2.145 billion bushels, which would be 9 million bushels lower than the November estimate, if proven correct.
According to the Buenos Aires Grains Exchange, 44% of Argentina’s corn planting is complete, slightly behind last year’s 46% pace.
