According to the EIA, U.S. ethanol production for the week ending December 5 fell by 21,000 barrels per day to 1.105 million bpd, down from the previous week’s record. Ethanol stocks declined only 1,000 barrels during the week to 22.51 million barrels. Refiners’ ethanol usage slipped by 6,000 bpd to 851,000 bpd, while ethanol exports dropped 45,000 bpd to 125,000 bpd.
NASS released its pending Grain Crushings report today, showing September corn grind at 435.36 million bushels, down 2.66% from last year. October corn grind reached 476.4 million bushels, up 2.76% from a year ago. In the first two months of the marketing year, corn use for ethanol was up by 1 million bushels from last year.
Another backlog update of Export Sales data will be released Thursday morning, with traders expecting 0.8–2 MMT of corn sales for the week of 11/13.
A fresh CFTC report released Wednesday (for the week of November 10) showed speculators cutting 31,993 contracts from their net short, reducing the position to 39,523 contracts.
Two South Korean importers purchased a total of 136,000 MT of corn in overnight tenders, while Taiwan issued a tender for 65,000 MT of corn.
