According to the Export Sales data released for the week ending March 19, old crop corn bookings totaled 1.22 MMT. This was higher than the previous week and 17.1% above the same week last year. Mexico was the top buyer with 428,600 MT. In addition, Colombia purchased 319,400 MT and the Dominican Republic bought 97,200 MT of corn.
New crop sales were reported at 135,000 MT, all of which were sold to Japan.
Ahead of the USDA March Intentions report due next week, traders expect NASS to report corn planted area at 94.37 million acres. If realized, this would represent a decline of 4.4 million acres compared to last year.
