According to the USDA’s annual March Prospective Plantings report released this morning, corn is expected to be planted on a total of 95.338 million acres this spring. If realized, this would be 3.45 million acres lower than last year, although it is above the average trade estimate of 94.37 million acres. The survey of producers was conducted during the first two weeks of March.
According to the Grain Stocks report, corn stocks as of March 1 were recorded at 9.024 billion bushels. This was 89 million bushels below the average trade estimate, but still 887 million bushels higher than a year ago. Meanwhile, the December 1 stocks figure was revised 23 million bushels higher to 13.306 billion bushels.
