ICE cotton futures showed weakness on Tuesday, with contracts closing 19 to 29 points lower following higher-than-expected acreage estimates. The US dollar index fell by 0.658 points to 99.695. Meanwhile, crude oil futures declined by $1.13 to $101.75 per barrel on the day.
According to the March Prospective Plantings report, cotton planting this spring is expected to cover 9.64 million acres. This is 409,000 acres above trade estimates and 357,000 acres higher than last year.
On Monday, 2,566 bales of cotton were sold on the Seam platform at an average price of 61.79 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index increased by 10 points on March 30 to reach 80.20 cents per pound. ICE certified cotton stocks remained unchanged at 114,665 bales as of March 30. Last Thursday, the Adjusted World Price was raised by 25 points to 54.47 cents per pound.
