ICE cotton futures saw mild pressure on Thursday, with contracts closing 8 to 12 points lower. Crude oil futures fell 54 cents to $57.92 per barrel, while the US dollar index weakened by 0.373 points to 98.395.
Export Sales data for the week of 11/13 showed cotton bookings at 187,648 RB, below last year’s levels. Shipments were the second lowest so far this marketing year at 113,219 RB.
September cotton exports (excluding linters) totaled 592,176 bales—17.16% higher than last year but 7.88% lower than August.
In Wednesday’s online auction at The Seam, 9,650 bales were sold at an average price of 60.52 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index rose 25 points to 73.95 cents on 12/10. ICE certified cotton stocks were steady at 13,971 bales on December 10. The Adjusted World Price was updated to 50.39 cents per pound on Thursday, down 89 points from the previous week.
