Crushing of 42 lakh tonnes of mustard is estimated in the first four months of the season

Jaipur. The arrival of mustard, the most important oilseed crop of the Rabi season, is continuing regularly in the major markets of all the producing states and its good crushing is also happening in the mills. According to the data compiled by Anil Chatar, Managing Director of Marudhar Trading Agency,
a popular establishment located in the grain market of Chandpole, Jaipur (Rajasthan), in the first four months of the current marketing season i.e. from March to June 2024, a total of 67 lakh tonnes of mustard arrived in the major producing states,
out of which 47 lakh tonnes were supplied in open markets and the remaining 20 lakh tonnes arrived at government procurement centers. In the open markets, 15.50 lakh ton mustard arrived in March, 11.50 lakh ton in April, 11.00 lakh ton in May and 9 lakh ton in June,
whereas at the government procurement centres, only 10 thousand ton mustard was supplied and purchased in March, 13.80 lakh ton in April, 5.60 lakh ton in May and 50 thousand ton in June. In April, the price of mustard had come down considerably.
According to the data of Marudhar Trading Agency, a total of 42 lakh ton mustard was crushed in the first four months with 13 lakh ton in March, 9 lakh ton in April and 10 lakh ton each in May and June. At the beginning of March, 4.50 lakh ton mustard was present in the previous outstanding stock,
whereas till 30 June, 67 lakh ton mustard arrived. Out of this, 20 lakh ton was purchased by the agencies and all that stock is still present. In these four months, 42 lakh tonnes of mustard was crushed by oil mills and on July 1, 2024, millers-processors and traders-stockists had a stock of 9.50 lakh tonnes left.
On the other hand, government agencies have a stock of 27.50 lakh tonnes of mustard, which includes 7.50 lakh tonnes of old stock and 20 lakh tonnes of new stock. On July 1, farmers have 49 lakh tonnes, millers-traders have 9.50 lakh tonnes and government agencies (NAFED and HAFED) have 27.50 lakh tonnes, with a total stock of 86 lakh tonnes of mustard in the country.
