Mumbai. Due to excellent domestic production, high stock and competitive price, a strong increase in the export of cumin from India is being seen.

During the entire period of the last financial year i.e. from April 2023 to March 2024, a total of a little more than 1.52 lakh tonnes of cumin was exported from India, whereas in the first four months of the current financial year, its shipment reached above 91 thousand tonnes.

According to the available data, during 2024, compared to the year 2023, the export of cumin from India jumped from 16,282 tonnes to 38,027 tonnes in April, improved from 9259 tonnes to 14,727 tonnes in June.

Despite this, the total export of cumin jumped from 57,526 tonnes in April-July 2023 to a high of 91,175 tonnes in April-July 2024.

During the financial year 2023-24, 6654 tonnes of cumin was exported from the country in August, 5960 tonnes in September, 6228 tonnes in October, 8099 tonnes in November, 12,234 tonnes in December 2023,

12,396 tonnes in January 2024, 10,966 tonnes in February and 32,127 tonnes in March 2024. In this way, a total of 1,52,189 tonnes of cumin was exported from India during April 2023 to March 2024.

It is worth noting that last year, due to a sharp decline in domestic production and prices jumping to new record levels, the export of cumin from India was affected, but during the current financial year,

the situation is normal on the production and price front, whereas the situation is not normal in other competing countries like Turkey, Syria and Iran.

Due to this, India will face less challenge in the international export market of cumin. The dependence of importing countries on India for purchasing cumin is increasing.
