Cyclone Fengal has formed over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and is currently moving in a north-northwest direction. It is located about 210 km from Nagapattinam, 180 km from Pondicherry, and 190 km from Chennai. Despite its slow movement, with a speed of just 7 km per hour, the cyclone is expected to intensify once it makes landfall.

The cyclone is anticipated to reach the northern Tamil Nadu-Pondicherry coast, between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram, by the evening of November 30.

It could accelerate to speeds of 70-80 km per hour upon landfall, bringing with it heavy to very heavy rains to regions including Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Nellore, Chennai, Proddatur, Tirupati, Vellore, Salem, Tiruchirapalli, and Pondicherry.

These rains are expected to significantly impact the sowing and progress of Rabi crops in Tamil Nadu, especially along the northern coast, as the northeast monsoon is still active.

Environmental factors have contributed to the cyclone's intensification, but it is unlikely to affect the interior regions of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, or Karnataka.

Meteorologists caution that the cyclone will have its greatest impact on Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh.
