New Delhi. The Union Agriculture Ministry is not only satisfied but also excited with the Digital Crop Survey (DCS) conducted so far and is planning to run this campaign in new areas.
It is noteworthy that so far, about 23 crore plots or land plots have been measured (mapped) in 3 lakh villages of 435 districts in 14 states.
In this survey campaign, it was found that the actual area was about 19 percent more than the manual estimate made about the sowing area of crops. This is a very big figure and it can have a great impact on the production of crops.
In view of this, a plan has been made to not only continue the campaign but also to extend it to other states and necessary preparations are being made for this.
The available data shows that out of the 14 provinces of the country in which the Digital Crop Survey (DCS) campaign is being conducted, 50 percent i.e. seven states performed very well.
This includes Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Rajasthan.
There, during the Kharif season last year, more than 90 percent of the targeted plots were successfully measured.
Now the government has started preparations to start the DCS campaign in other states of the country apart from these 14 states.
Under this, at least one district in each state will be included in this survey campaign and it can start in the next Kharif season.
The sowing season of Kharif crops is going to start in June and the government will get two months to prepare for the digital crop survey. In the 14 states where this survey campaign is already going on, it will be continued further.
It is necessary to get accurate data of crop production area in other major agricultural producing states of the country including Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, Karnataka,
West Bengal and Odisha. This will help in making a practical estimate of production and removing market dilemma.
