New Delhi. The National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF), the apex body of cooperative sugar mills, has projected domestic sugar production to reach 350 lakh tonnes in the 2025-26 marketing season (October to September).
At the end of the current season, the industry is expected to have a closing stock of 48.70 lakh tonnes of sugar, which will be sufficient to meet domestic demand for the first two months of the next season—October and November 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Federation, sugarcane crushing generally picks up pace after mid-October, so the available stock will ensure uninterrupted supply and stable prices in the domestic market.
Although there may be a 2% variation in the estimated closing stock figure due to reliance on government-issued monthly sale quotas and data from sugar mills, the overall supply situation is expected to remain comfortable.
Currently, the ex-factory price of sugar is stable at Rs 3880 to Rs 3920 per quintal. This price stability is attributed to timely policy interventions by the government, which balanced supply and demand.
The government allowed the export of 10 lakh tonnes of sugar while also maintaining control over the monthly free sale quota.
Although production declined this season, domestic demand remained firm, and government measures helped maintain equilibrium in the market.
