★ Overall, major states recorded moong sowing of 31.49 lakh hectares against 31.82 lakh hectares last year, a decline of 0.33 lakh hectares.
★ Earlier, an increase in sowing was expected, but that has not materialized. Excess rainfall has caused crop damage in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka.
★ Fresh arrivals of moong have begun in Maharashtra and Karnataka, but quality is poor with high moisture content.
Better-quality produce is expected to fetch good prices.
