Edible Oil Imports Likely to Rise in March
★ In March, India's palm oil imports rose by 13.2% compared to February, reaching 423,000 tonnes. However, this marks the fourth consecutive month that imports remained below average levels, mainly due to high palm oil prices prompting refiners to shift towards soybean oil.
★ Soybean oil imports increased by 24% in March, reaching 352,000 tonnes, while sunflower oil imports dropped by 15.5% to 193,000 tonnes—the lowest in six months.
★ Overall edible oil imports in March rose by 9.3% to 968,000 tonnes.
★ Experts believe palm oil prices may not become competitive until July, suggesting there is still room for further increase in imports.
