Hanumangarh. In various districts of Rajasthan—the western state of the country—the government procurement of kharif moong and groundnut from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) is gradually gaining momentum. In this sequence, procurement of these pulse and oilseed crops has also begun in Hanumangarh district through RAJFED under the Cooperative Department, and the pace is steadily increasing. This year, the approval for government procurement of pulses and oilseeds in Rajasthan was granted quite late, and there was also a delay in fixing the starting date.
It is noteworthy that Rajasthan is the leading producer of kharif moong in the country and ranks second after Gujarat in groundnut production. This year, due to floods, heavy rains, and waterlogging in fields, the moong crop was partially affected, but weather conditions remained favourable for groundnut, raising expectations of an excellent harvest.
According to official sources, 11 procurement centres for moong and 6 centres for groundnut have been set up in Hanumangarh district. Government procurement of moong has started at 10 centres, while all 6 centres for groundnut are already operational. The procurement process will continue for a long duration. Since wholesale market prices are below the Minimum Support Price (MSP), farmers are easily able to sell their produce at government procurement centres.
According to the information received, during the first 12 days of procurement, 7,726 quintals of moong and groundnut worth ₹6.38 crore were purchased from 376 farmers at the Hanumangarh procurement centres. The procurement process is still ongoing.
