New Delhi. Water stocks in dams and reservoirs in the western and central states of the country have been assessed as significantly better than in other regions.

According to a new report from the Central Water Commission (CWC), a total of 53 major dams and reservoirs in the western region have a water stock of 35.099 billion cubic meters (BCM),

representing 92 percent of their total storage capacity of 38.094 BCM. Goa's sole reservoir is almost completely filled, while reservoirs in Maharashtra have a water stock equivalent to 94 percent, and dams in Gujarat have a water stock equivalent to 90 percent.

As for the central region of the country, the combined storage capacity of 28 major dams is 48.588 BCM, while the water stock currently available is 42.008 BCM, or 86 percent.

In this division, Madhya Pradesh's reservoirs have 89 percent of their storage capacity, and Uttarakhand's 87 percent, while Chhattisgarh's reservoirs have 86 percent of their storage capacity, while Uttar Pradesh's dams have the lowest water availability at 78 percent.

The above data indicates that these states have sufficient water reserves in their dams and reservoirs for drinking water and crop irrigation, and therefore, there is no crisis.

The soil in the fields is adequately hydrated, and sowing of Rabi crops is continuing in full swing. Furthermore, other water sources also have good water reserves, which is likely to reduce the pressure on dams and reservoirs.
