Government May Allow Wheat Bran Exports Soon
★ After nearly three years of a ban on the export of wheat and its by-products such as flour, maida, and bran, the government is now likely to permit wheat bran exports.
★ According to sources, the decision to allow bran exports has been finalized, and an official notification is expected within the next 2–4 days.
★ From one wheat grain, around 60–70% maida and 27–28% bran is produced during milling.
★ Due to the availability of DDGS (Distillers’ Dried Grains with Solubles), a protein-rich by-product of ethanol production, wheat bran prices have been under pressure in the domestic market.
★ If the government permits bran exports, it will benefit mills in eastern India and traders exporting to Bangladesh. Additionally, it could help stabilize domestic bran prices, which have been subdued due to competition from DDGS.
