Government Target: 171.14 Million Tonnes Foodgrain Production Set for 2025–26
★ The central government has set a total foodgrain production target of 171.14 million tonnes for the upcoming crop year 2025–26. Wheat holds the largest share, with a target of 119 million tonnes.

Targets for other crops are as follows—
Rice: 15.86 million tonnes
Pulses: 16.57 million tonnes
Nutri cereals: 3.17 million tonnes
Maize: 14.5 million tonnes
Barley: 2.05 million tonnes
★ The total production target for oilseeds is 15.07 million tonnes, including 13.9 million tonnes of mustard.
★ Although production rises every year with favorable weather and moisture conditions, one critical question remains: where does the additional cultivation area come from annually? If area expands for one crop, it may be reducing for another.
