Gujarat Kharif 2025 vs 2024: Slight decline in total sowing, oilseeds show strength
★ As of August 4, 2025, total Kharif crop sowing in Gujarat has reached 7.047 million hectares, compared to 7.372 million hectares during the same period last year — a decline of about 0.325 million hectares. Sowing has reached 82.35% of the normal area.
★ Paddy has been sown over 0.717 million hectares, down from 0.764 million hectares last year.
★ Maize acreage has also decreased to 0.265 million hectares from 0.284 million hectares last year.
★ Pigeon pea (tur) has been sown over 0.184 million hectares, compared to 0.205 million hectares in 2024.
★ Black gram (urad) sowing has dropped to 58,931 hectares, from 76,904 hectares last year.
★ Sesame acreage has also declined to 37,523 hectares from 43,754 hectares.
★ However, some crops have shown better performance. Groundnut sowing has increased significantly to 2.041 million hectares, up from 1.899 million hectares last year.
★ Soybean acreage stands at 0.265 million hectares, which is lower than last year’s 0.296 million hectares but still above the normal average.
★ Overall, oilseed sowing has remained strong this Kharif season, with groundnut showing notable growth.
★ On the other hand, pulses and some cereals have lagged behind, which could be a matter of concern.
