IMD forecasts more than normal rainfall in July

New Delhi. The month of July has two characteristics – firstly, it is considered to be the month with the highest rainfall and secondly, the maximum sowing of Kharif crops takes place in this month. This time the southwest monsoon arrived about a week earlier, which gave Indian farmers an opportunity to start sowing Kharif crops early.

At the national level, a good increase in its area is being seen. Except for some parts of Chhattisgarh and Orissa, the monsoon arrived in almost the entire country before the scheduled time and overall the rainfall was also good.

Dispelling the future apprehensions of the farmers, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted good rainfall in July as well.

The Director General of IMD has said that during July 2025, only Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Bihar, northern districts of Jharkhand and some areas of Jammu and Kashmir may receive slightly less rainfall than the normal average,

while the rest of the country is expected to receive normal or more rainfall, including major agricultural producing states like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

If there is more than normal rainfall in July, the pace of sowing of Kharif crops will be fast and farmers will not face any problem in cultivating other crops including paddy.

By June 27, the area of Kharif crops crossed 258 lakh hectares, which is about 20 percent of the five-year average area. Its sowing area in July and August will reach very close to the normal average area and the remaining cultivation is expected to be done by mid-September.

The monsoon has weakened in some areas and there is a lack of rain there, but the July rain can make up for this deficiency. Favorable conditions are being created for the monsoon in the sea.

The European Weather Forecasting Centre has predicted heavy rainfall in various parts of India during the first two weeks of July. This may cause severe floods in some areas and flooding of fields. But most areas will receive normal rainfall.
