Karnataka rainfall status: mixed signals for Kharif crops Period: June 1 – June 30, 2025 Source: IMD
★ Rainfall distribution across Karnataka in June 2025 has been varied, giving mixed prospects for Kharif sowing:
Heavy rainfall (60%+ above normal):
★ Districts in North-West Karnataka such as Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Dakshina Kannada, and Belagavi received heavy rainfall, which is favorable for sowing crops like paddy, maize, and groundnut.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Above normal rainfall (20–59% above normal):
★ Districts like Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Kodagu received good rainfall, supporting timely and improved sowing activities.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Normal rainfall (-19% to +19%):
★ Districts such as Bagalkot, Dharwad, Gadag, Koppal, Yadgir, and Raichur recorded normal rainfall, ensuring stable sowing progress. Pigeon pea and maize are the major crops in this region.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Deficient rainfall (-59% to -20%):
★ Haveri, Chitradurga, Tumakuru, Bengaluru Rural, and Bengaluru Urban saw below-normal rainfall. This could slow down sowing of crops like jowar, bajra, and pulses.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Large deficiency (-99% to -60%):
★ Districts such as Ramanagara, Chikkaballapur, and Kolar experienced severe rainfall deficits, which could significantly delay or reduce sowing.
★ While some parts of Karnataka are progressing well with Kharif sowing, southeastern districts are facing challenges due to low rainfall. If rainfall improves in July, the overall sown area could still reach normal levels.
