Increase in Mustard Sowing Area and Yield Rate

Jaipur. According to the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA)—a leading organization within the indigenous vegetable oil industry and market sector—the national-level sowing area for mustard during the 2025-26 Rabi season witnessed an increase of 1.76 lakh hectares compared to 2024-25, rising from 92.15 lakh hectares to reach 93.91 lakh hectares.
Similarly, the average yield rate for mustard is also projected to improve during this period, rising from 1,250 kg per hectare to reach 1,271 kg per hectare. Based on these figures, the Association has estimated that the total mustard production for the year will surge by 4.20 lakh tonnes from the previous season's figure of 115.20 lakh tonnes, reaching a total of 119.40 lakh tonnes.
According to the Association, comparing the 2025-26 Rabi season with 2024-25, the mustard sowing area increased in several states: in Rajasthan, it rose from 34.74 lakh hectares to 35.78 lakh hectares; in Uttar Pradesh, it jumped from 14.23 lakh hectares to 15.41 lakh hectares; in Haryana,
it improved from 7.14 lakh hectares to 7.50 lakh hectares; in West Bengal, it grew from 6.83 lakh hectares to 7.38 lakh hectares; in Gujarat, it expanded from 2.02 lakh hectares to 2.89 lakh hectares; and in Assam, it improved from 3.15 lakh hectares to 3.20 lakh hectares.
In Bihar, the sowing area remained stable at 86,000 hectares, while in Madhya Pradesh, it declined from 14.86 lakh hectares to 14.04 lakh hectares, and in the remaining states of the country, it dropped from 7.72 lakh hectares to 7.09 lakh hectares.
