According to Export Sales data, total corn export commitments have reached 58.735 million metric tons (MMT), which is 31 percent higher than the same period last year. This now represents 72 percent of the USDA’s export projection and is ahead of the 71 percent average pace.
The USDA’s WASDE report will be released next Tuesday. According to a Bloomberg survey, traders are not expecting any major change in U.S. ending corn stocks, with the average estimate at 2.215 billion bushels (bbu).
CFTC data showed that speculators trimmed 3,464 contracts from their net short position in corn futures and options during the week ending February 3. The net short position stood at 68,786 contracts on that date.
StatsCanada data released this morning showed corn stocks in Canada at 10.95 MMT as of December 31, down 3.3 percent from a year earlier.
