Friday afternoon’s Commitment of Traders report showed that as of July 22, spec funds trimmed a total of 8,446 contracts from their net short position in CBT wheat futures and options, leaving it at 52,041 contracts. In KC wheat, managed money’s net short position stood at 43,959 contracts, down 4,043 contracts for the week.
According to USDA’s export sales data, 8.984 million metric tons of wheat have been sold so far this marketing year. This is 39% of USDA’s estimate and ahead of the 37% average sales pace.
On Friday morning, a South Korean importer purchased a total of 85,200 metric tons of wheat from the U.S. FranceAgriMer estimates that the soft wheat harvest is 86% complete, up from 71% last week.
