According to the Commitment of Traders (COT) data released by the CFTC on Friday afternoon, speculative traders increased their net short positions in Chicago wheat futures and options by 19,453 contracts as of Tuesday, bringing the total net short position to 112,040 contracts.
In Kansas City (KC) wheat, they added 225 contracts, bringing the total net short position to 45,675 contracts as of April 1.
According to the USDA's export sales report, total wheat export commitments for the 2024/25 marketing year stand at 21.433 million metric tons (MMT), which is 14% higher than the same period last year. This represents 94% of the USDA's projected export estimate, whereas the average seasonal pace is typically 101%.
