A Bloomberg survey of analysts suggests US wheat production ahead of Thursday’s Crop Progress report may rise by 3 million bushels to 1.924 billion bushels. Most of this increase is expected to come from winter wheat production, projected nearly 8 million bushels higher at 1.389 billion bushels. The HRW crop is seen up 4 million bushels to 755, SRW up 2 million bushels to 346, and the white wheat crop steady at 253 million bushels. Old crop wheat stocks are projected to increase by 4 million bushels to 845 million bushels, with the new crop total up 2 million to 925 million bushels.
The US winter wheat crop was 4% harvested by Sunday, behind the 7% five-year average. Each of the 18 reported states lagged normal progress. Conditions improved by 2% to 54% good to excellent, with the Brugler500 index up 5 points to 341. The largest improvement was in Nebraska, where ratings rose 77 points as good to excellent increased by 20% to 43% and poor to very poor fell by 35% to 13%. Other notable improvements included Texas up 20, Colorado up 19, and Oklahoma up 9. Ratings declined in Montana by 38 points, and also fell in Oregon and Washington, with Washington down 12.
Spring wheat crop conditions improved another 3% to 53% good to excellent as the Brugler500 index rose 7 points to 347. Most of the improvement came from North Dakota up 18, South Dakota up 10, Minnesota up 6, and Idaho up 2. Deterioration was seen in Montana and Washington, both down 5 points.
EU Commission data shows EU soft wheat exports totaling 19.49 million metric tons from July 1 to June 8, which lags behind the 29.23 million metric tons from the same period last year.
