Export Sales data shows wheat export commitments at 21.974 MMT, up 17 percent from the same period last year. This now represents 90 percent of the USDA forecast, slightly behind the 91 percent average pace.
The USDA will release updated WASDE data on Tuesday. A Bloomberg survey shows analysts’ average estimate for U.S. wheat stocks at 918 million bushels, which would be 8 million bushels lower than January if realized.
CFTC data showed that speculative funds cut 12,988 contracts from their net short position in CBT wheat during the week ending February 3, leaving the net short position at 81,755 contracts. In KC wheat, managed money trimmed another 1,485 contracts from the net short position, bringing it down to 8,844 contracts.
StatsCanada data as of December 31 showed total wheat stocks at 27.5 MMT, up 5.9 percent from the same time last year. Of this, wheat excluding durum totaled 22.15 MMT, up 3.2 percent year over year.
