Kharif Sowing Gains Momentum in Karnataka
★ As of May 31, kharif sowing in Karnataka crossed 300,000 hectares, compared to 240,000 hectares during the same period last year.
★ Maize sowing has surged, recording a 160% increase over last year. Jowar (sorghum) sowing has also increased.
★ Urad (black gram) and moong (green gram) sowing has risen, while tur (pigeon pea) sowing has declined.
★ Sugarcane and oilseed sowing has shown an upward trend.
★ The Agriculture Department has projected a total grain production target of 1114 lakh tonnes for the 2025–26 kharif season across the country, including:
Coarse cereals: 15.14 lakh tonnes
Pulses: 15.26 lakh tonnes
Oilseeds: 8.68 lakh tonnes
