Mustard Stocks Stand at 2.3 Million Tonnes at Month’s Start

Jaipur. While vigorous sowing of mustard, the most important oilseed crop of the Rabi season, continues in major producing states, arrivals in wholesale markets have begun to decline due to the off-season. The new mustard crop is expected to arrive in February.
Data compiled by Anil Chatar, Managing Director of Marudhar Trading Agency, a popular and trusted trading firm located in the Chandpole grain market in Jaipur, Rajasthan, shows that during the first nine months of 2025, from February to November, a total of 9.675 million tons of mustard arrived at government procurement centers across the country.
A total of 9.75 million tons of mustard arrived at government procurement centers and was purchased by government agencies, including 50,000 tons in March, 900,000 tons in April, and 25,000 tons in May 2025.
On the other hand, mustard supplies in open wholesale markets totaled 1.45 million tons in March 2025, 1.5 million tons in April, 1.1 million tons in May, 1.0 million tons in June, 8 million tons in July,
7.5 million tons in August, 7 million tons in September, 7.5 million tons in October, and 6.5 million tons in November 2025, which were purchased by traders/stockists and oil millers.
According to Marudhar Trading Agency, farmers had a backstock of 1 million tons of mustard on March 1, 2025, and production for the 2024-25 Rabi season was estimated at 10.925 million tons. Of this, 9.675 million tons was sold, leaving producers with a stock of 1.35 million tons.
Meanwhile, government agencies held a backstock of 7 million tons of mustard and purchased 9.75 million tons during the current season. Out of this, 11.25 lakh tonnes were sold and now a stock of 5.50 lakh tonnes is left with it.
During March to November 2025, 95.25 lakh tonnes of mustard was crushed by oil millers while 4 lakh tonnes of stock is left with processors and stockists including last year.
Thus, at the end of November or beginning of December, a total of 23 lakh tonnes of mustard stock was left in the country including 13.50 lakh tonnes with farmers, 4 lakh tonnes with millers/stockists and 5.50 lakh tonnes with government agencies.
