New Brazilian Soybean Crop Likely to Arrive Starting Next Month

São Paulo. In the Latin American nation of Brazil, soybean planting has been completed in most major producing states and is now in its final phase at the national level. In top-producing states such as Mato Grosso and Paraná, planting began as early as September, while in the far-southern province of Rio Grande do Sul, planting is still underway in some areas. This third-largest producing state traditionally begins sowing the crop the latest.

With weather and rainfall conditions remaining largely favorable and the sown acreage increasing, Brazil’s soybean production during the 2025–26 season is once again expected to rise and reach a new record level. It is noteworthy that Brazil is the world’s leading producer and exporter of soybeans, and one of the top three producers and exporters of soybean oil and soybean meal. Traditionally, the harvest of the September-sown crop begins in January, and this trend is likely to continue this season as well. The arrival of the new crop gains momentum from February, remains strong in March–April, and is generally completed before mid-May.

According to prevailing government regulations in Brazil, farmers are subject to fines if even a single living soybean plant is found in any state or region after 15 May. These plants are not allowed to remain in fields, farmyards, along roadways or railway tracks, or in gardens and orchards.

China continues to remain the largest buyer of Brazilian soybeans. Due to strong Chinese demand, Brazil’s total soybean exports in the 2024–25 marketing season are estimated to surge to a record 110 million tons, which is 12.7 million tons higher than the 97.3 million tons shipped in the 2023–24 season. This year, China had an informal restriction on U.S. soybean imports for a few months, leading to a significant increase in its imports from Brazil. Despite the off-season in supply, Brazil’s soybean exports to China in November reached 4.2 million tons, while September shipments are also estimated to have hit a record 2.8 million tons.
