News Capsule: Decline in Walnut Exports to India
★ October proved to be a highly successful month for Chile in terms of walnut exports. In October 2025, inshell walnut exports increased by 35% to 9,123 tons compared with the previous year, while shelled walnut exports rose by 55% to 5,603 tons. Between March and October 2025, total inshell exports have recorded a 29% rise over the same period last year.
★ However, exports of inshell walnuts to India — Chile’s leading export destination — have seen an 11% decline. According to data, Chile’s inshell walnut exports to India were 30,651 tons in 2024, which have dropped to 27,155 tons in 2025.
★ A similar weakness has been observed in the Asia and Oceania region, where exports have fallen by 10% this season.
In contrast, exports to Turkey have surged by 63%, and shipments to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have grown more than tenfold.
★ Walnut shipments to the Middle East and Africa have jumped by over 100% this season, reaching 32,785 tons.
★ Exports to Europe have grown at a slower but steady pace, increasing by 33% to 22,640 tons.
★ Reduced imports indicate the possibility of rising prices.
