News Capsule: Expectations of Higher Allocation in OMSS Wheat Sale: Sources
★ According to sources, several amendments may be introduced in the OMSS.
★ The wheat sale allocation in the upcoming tender may be increased from 2 lakh tonnes to 2.5 lakh tonnes.
★ From January, tenders are likely to be floated on a weekly basis instead of the current fortnightly schedule.
★ The allocation for wheat sale in January may also be raised to 3 lakh tonnes.
★ In the ongoing sale season, 30 lakh tonnes of wheat have been allocated for sale.
★ It is believed that the government aims to clear existing stocks quickly and create storage space for the next procurement cycle, as rabi sowing is rising and weather conditions are favourable for the crop.
★ A record wheat production is expected next year.
★ Due to strong availability in the domestic market and increased OMSS sales, wheat prices during the harvesting period may fall below MSP.
★ The MSP for Rabi 2026 has been fixed at ₹2,585 per quintal.
