News Capsule: Government Hikes Copra MSP for 2026 Season
★ The central government has approved an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for copra (dried coconut) for the 2026 season, providing relief to farmers. The move aims to ensure better prices over production costs and strengthen incomes of coconut growers.
★ The MSP for milling copra has been raised by ₹445 to ₹12,027 per quintal, while the MSP for ball copra has been increased by ₹400 to ₹12,500 per quintal. The revised MSP will apply to Fair and Average Quality (FAQ) copra.
★ According to the official statement, the revised MSP offers a sufficient margin over the cost of production and will help protect coconut farmers from market price volatility. Procurement under MSP will be carried out through central nodal agencies such as NAFED and NCCF.
★ Experts believe that the MSP hike will boost farmer confidence in major coconut-growing states and could also support production in the coming season.
