News Capsule: Heavy sales reduce government mustard stock, arrivals declining in mandis as well. What next?
★ According to Marudhar Trading, Jaipur, the mustard stock held by government agencies is continuously declining. In October and ★ November 2025, about 3 lakh tons of mustard were sold, due to which the available stock is falling rapidly.
★ The agencies had procured 7 lakh tons of old mustard and 9.75 lakh tons of last season’s crop, totaling 16.75 lakh tons.
★ According to the data, after sales of 8.25 lakh tons till September, the stock on 1 October stood at 8.5 lakh tons. By the beginning of November, this stock had fallen to 7 lakh tons, which means 1.5 lakh tons were sold in October.
★ After another 1.5 lakh tons were sold in November, the stock on 1 December dropped to 5.5 lakh tons.

What next?
★ If this sales pace (around 1.5 lakh tons per month) continues in the coming months, the stock available with the agencies will last only about 3.5 months. Government procurement usually starts between 1 and 15 April. In such a situation, government stock may decline further before new procurement begins.
★ Mandis prices above MSP, farmers’ interest rising
★ The MSP for mustard (Rabi 2026) is ₹6,200 per quintal, while prices in major mandis are higher than this:
★ In Bharatpur mustard traded at ₹6,925, in Morena at ₹6,675, and in Hisar at ₹6,600 per quintal yesterday.
★ Arrivals in mandis are now gradually declining.
★ Looking at all these factors, mustard prices may see an upward trend in the coming days.
★ At present, only wheat and mustard are the major crops trading above MSP. As a result, the possibility of farmers increasing the sowing of wheat and mustard has strengthened further.
