News Capsule: India’s Oilseed Exports Led by Groundnut and Sesame
★ India exported 2.09 lakh tonnes of oilseeds worth ₹2,618 crore during April-June 2026-27. Groundnut and sesame accounted for the largest share of exports.
★ Shelled groundnut exports stood at 1.33 lakh tonnes, valued at ₹1,550 crore. In 2025-26, India exported around 6.63 lakh tonnes of groundnut.
★ Sesame exports during the first quarter stood at 61,248 tonnes, valued at ₹945 crore. There is strong potential to increase exports of cleaned, machine-sorted and processed groundnut and sesame products.
★ Meanwhile, India imported 5.80 lakh tonnes of oilseeds worth ₹3,146 crore during the quarter. Soybean and sesame together accounted for nearly 99% of imports. Soybean alone accounted for around 96% of import volume at 5.50 lakh tonnes.
★ India also needs to diversify its export basket by developing overseas markets for mustard, linseed, safflower and other oilseeds.
