News Capsule: Strong Start for Almond Exports to India, Shipments from California More Than Double
★ California’s almond market is showing bullish sentiment, while the season has started on a very strong note for India. In August 2026, almond shipments from California to India were more than double the level recorded a year earlier. Last year, exports to India picked up only in the second half of the season, but this year demand from Indian buyers has remained strong as they replenish stocks ahead of Diwali.
★ In August, total almond shipments from California increased 21% to 190 million pounds. Exports rose 31% to 143 million pounds, while domestic shipments declined 3% to 47 million pounds.
★ India recorded the strongest growth in almond shipments. Demand has been supported by Indian importers rebuilding stocks ahead of the festive season.
★ In the Asia-Pacific region, total almond shipments stood at 69 million pounds, more than double the 33 million pounds recorded in August 2025. Exports to Japan also increased 52%.
★ Strong early-season exports, lower carry-in stocks and robust festive demand from India have strengthened the bullish outlook for the California almond market. Going forward, global supplies and domestic festive demand will remain key factors influencing almond imports and prices in India.
