News Capsule: Possibility of Decline in Edible Oil Imports in November: Sources
★ India’s total edible oil imports in November are expected to fall 11.5% from October to 1.18 million tons, marking the lowest level in the last seven months.
★ Palm oil imports may rise slightly by 4.6% to reach 630,000 tons, as its prices remain lower compared to other oils.
★ In contrast, soybean oil imports are expected to drop 12% to 400,000 tons, while sunflower oil imports may fall 44% to a two-year low of 145,000 tons.
★ Duty-free soybean oil imports from Nepal are estimated to be around 30,000 tons.
★ Palm oil is currently about 100 dollars per ton cheaper than soybean oil, encouraging Indian buyers to increase its purchase.
★ It is estimated that palm oil imports could rise further to 750,000 tons in December.
★ Sunflower oil prices remain about 200 dollars per ton higher than palm oil and 100 dollars per ton higher than soybean oil, prompting buyers to seek cheaper alternatives.
★ Canola oil imports in November have halved to 5,000 tons.
★ With declining imports and higher prices of soybean and sunflower oil, edible oil prices are expected to improve in the coming months.
