News Capsule: Pulse Production Rises in Canada: StatsCan
★ According to the latest StatsCan report, Canada has seen a significant increase in pulse production.
★ Lentil output rose from 1.8 MMT in 2023 to 2.431 MMT in 2024 and further to 3.363 MMT in 2025 — nearly double the 2023 level.
★ Meanwhile, chickpea production jumped by 2 lakh tonnes, rising from last year’s 2.86 lakh tonnes to 4.8 lakh tonnes in 2025. This is the highest chickpea production ever recorded, though poor quality has resulted in fewer large-size grains.
★ Canada fears that India may impose an import duty on lentils.
