News Capsule: Season 2025–26: Sugar Production in Maharashtra at 0.975 Million Tonnes, 133 Sugar Mills Closed
★ The sugarcane crushing season in Maharashtra for 2025–26 has reached its final stage. As of 8 March 2026, 210 sugar mills in the state have crushed about 103.10 lakh tonnes of sugarcane and produced 9.75 lakh tonnes of sugar. During this period, the average recovery rate stood at 9.46%. Out of the total mills, 133 mills have already stopped operations.
★ During the same period last season, 199 mills had crushed 83.53 lakh tonnes of sugarcane and produced 7.86 lakh tonnes of sugar, while 143 mills had shut down.

Division-wise Status (Lakh Tonnes):
★ Kolhapur: 20.99 cane crushed, 2.31 sugar production, recovery 11.01% (all 39 mills closed)
★ Pune: 22.34 cane crushed, 2.20 sugar production, recovery 9.83% (20 out of 32 mills closed)
★ Solapur: 21.86 cane crushed, 1.88 sugar production
★ Ahilyanagar: 12.50 cane crushed, 1.13 sugar production, recovery 9.07%
★ Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: 11.71 cane crushed, 0.96 sugar production, recovery 8.02%
★ Nanded: 12.33 cane crushed, 1.16 sugar production, recovery 9.39%
★ Amravati: 0.12 cane crushed, 0.12 sugar production
★ Nagpur: 0.02 cane crushed, 0.01 sugar production, recovery 4.22%
★ The Kolhapur division remained ahead in both production and recovery, while the crushing season in most regions is now nearing completion.
