News Capsule: Sunflower Oil Imports Declining Due to High Prices
★ Due to higher prices, sunflower oil imports during the oil year from November 2025 to January 2026 have fallen to a four-year low.
★ On the other hand, palm oil imports have increased as it is relatively cheaper.
★ Monthly sunflower oil imports are averaging around 200,000–250,000 tons. CIF prices for crude sunflower oil for March delivery from the Black Sea region have reached $1,420 per ton, while Argentine sunflower oil is offering a discount of $10–20 compared to Black Sea prices.
★ Crude palm oil is trading at around $1,165 per ton, while crude soybean oil is at about $1,255 per ton.
★ In the 2024–25 oil year, sunflower oil imports may be limited to around 2.65 million tons, compared to 3.0 million tons last year.
★ Due to lower prices, palm oil imports rose by 51 percent in January compared to December, while sunflower oil imports declined by 23 percent.
