Islamabad. Finally accepting the repeated requests of the industry, the government has allowed the export of 1.50 lakh tonnes of sugar.
Along with this, strict instructions have been given to the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association to keep the necessary stock with itself to ensure adequate supply and availability of sugar in the domestic sector and to keep the prices stable and to export only the surplus stock.
In an important meeting of the Sugar Advisory Board held recently, it was decided to approve the export of sugar. Earlier, the board had rejected the proposal to this effect.
In this meeting of the board, held under the chairmanship of the Minister of Industry and Production, all issues including demand, supply, stock,
production and price of China were reviewed. The interesting fact is that this board includes representatives of the federal and provincial governments,
representatives of the sugar industry and representatives of farmers' organizations. Due to devaluation in Pakistan, the open market price of sugar has already jumped to a very high level,
due to which the common people are facing great difficulty. The government now does not want to let the price of sugar increase further.
It is worth noting that the association had earlier said that after meeting the domestic demand, the industry will have a surplus stock of 15 lakh tonnes of sugar.
The government made every effort to find out the truth of this and then came to the conclusion that the domestic market price will not be affected if 1.50 lakh tonnes are exported.
