Pea prices in Canada remain stable amid limited trading

Regina. Pea prices in Western Canada are remaining stable this week amid ample supply and limited trading in markets.
Peas typically trade moderately during this season, but this year, due to a robust harvest and India's 30 percent import duty, trading activity is sluggish.
Production data from the government agency, StatsCan, is expected to be released today. Growers and buyers have also reduced their activity in anticipation of these figures.
Trade analysts say that the StatsCan report may slightly reduce pea production estimates. Both top importing countries, China and India, impose high import duties on peas, yet Indian imports of yellow peas continue unabated.
Chinese importers are largely avoiding them. In Canadian markets, the delivery price for yellow peas is reported to be between $7.50 and $8.00 per bushel, and for green peas between $10.50 and $11.00 per bushel.
The price of maple peas is hovering between $10.00 and $11.50 per bushel, depending on the quality of the product and the procurement period.
According to analysts, a significant increase or sharp jump in the price of yellow peas is unlikely in the near future, as sufficient quantities of peas from Russia and Ukraine are still available for export at affordable prices.
Sowing of peas and other Rabi pulses in India is ongoing, and weather conditions remain favorable. Pea prices in the domestic market remain relatively stable, and there is no immediate supply or availability crisis. Prices may fluctuate slightly when the STC production data is released.
