Pea Prices Stable in Canada Due to Limited Trading

Regina. Pea prices in Western Canadian markets are largely stable this week, with limited trading activity in certain varieties/grades.

The price for No. 2 grade yellow peas remains steady at $7.00-$7.50 per bushel at the farm gate. Some trading is occurring in glyphosate-free peas, pushing their price to around $7.50 per bushel. Demand for standard yellow peas is weak, and prices are showing little change.

Green peas are trading at around $10 per bushel. For green peas with less than 3 percent split or small kernels, sellers are attempting to get slightly higher prices, and producers are hoping for better returns.

Buyers are showing some interest in this higher-quality green pea. It's worth noting that India does not import green peas, as only yellow peas are permitted for import. Similarly, maple pea prices are ranging from $10 to $11 per bushel depending on location and variety.

Although a 30 percent import duty on yellow peas came into effect in India on November 1, 2025, imports continue in significant quantities because shipments with bills of lading dated before October 31 will continue to arrive. The new duty will apply to transactions after November 1.

Pea planting in India began vigorously, and it was expected that the 30 percent import duty would further accelerate planting. However, government data shows that the planted area is behind last year's figures.

According to official figures, the area under pea cultivation during the current Rabi season reached 7.18 lakh hectares, which is 68,000 hectares more than the normal average area of 6.50 lakh hectares, but 67,000 hectares less than last year's sown area of 7.85 lakh hectares. This sowing data is as of December 5th.
